Amid an event where he got the Liberty Medal, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) expressed that according to him the US is leaving behind the goals for being a world leader for the sake of “some insane, spurious nationalism.”
And he as well added that direction is “unpatriotic” and “disgraceful”.
“To fear the world we’ve organized and led for 3/4s of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe.”
“To refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain the last, best hope of earth, for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism, cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is an unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.”
The 2008 Republican presidential candidate and President Trump have had a really bad relationship since President Trump’s statement in Ames, Iowa, in July 2015 about McCain, stating that he cannot be considered a war hero, because he was “captured” by the enemies.
Since that moment relations between them became irreparable.
Which became clear when the six-term representative conveyed the sensational final knockout to the president’s attempts to cancel the Affordable Care Act in July.
Discussing their issues, McCain, child and grandson of Navy chief officers, stated that Trump, child of a New York tycoon, has a totally different view on honor and values than he does.
McCain also stated that President Trump is the biggest American traitor. He explained that there is strong evidence about Trump’s cooperation with the Russians and that is unforgivable and disgraceful for any US President.
